Being a good big brother is a tiring job.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay safe out there and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

House call.

If River is having an off day, Simon takes the party to her!  He also gets some sweet, sweet litter-box claiming revenge out of the deal. πŸ˜‰

Lookin' good!

Simon is giving River a spa day makeover starting with a super special hare style.

Boop!

After greeting their new bunny friend, Scoots McGee, River felt the need to reassure Mr. Giraffe that he is super cool too.

Making every day count.

I just wanted to keep you all in the loop that River's been having a bit of a rough go of it the last few days with the advent of some seizure activity.  She isn't in any pain and the seizures are just a few moments of missing time for her.  Given her advanced age (10 years, 4 months) and frailty, we're at the comfort care stage of her journey.

She's still the sweet little munchkin she's always been and is still showing interest in food and the world around her.  She has her good days where she's more lucid and we're making the most out of every day we have with her by showering her with attention and love.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

Goodnight kisses.

Caught River giving Simon a quick peck on the cheek.  The little guy looks like he's smiling!

Simon's happy place.

With a freshly cleaned cage, the little fella did an epic bunny flop on his purple towel and is contentedly sucking his thumb after getting some noogies and a tummy rub.  Life is good!

Securing the primo napping spot.

Juuust gonna scoot ya over a bit, mmkay? [somehow manages to push River across the carpet]

Bunny belly burrowing.

For the record, I was just standing here minding my own business when River army crawled over and tried to snuggle-smother herself in my tummy.

Hoppy Easter!

The sugar crash is real, but the bunnies regret nothing!

Wishing a very Happy Easter to those who celebrate it and a happy Sunday to those who don't!

Hop to it!

What do you mean there isn't enough time for you to make a bunny quilt in time for Easter?!  We want one.  Now.  Make it happen, human!

Lessons were learned (I hope).

I did a thing.  Where's my treat?

Today, River decided it would be a good idea to start chinning any food I offered that she didn't want right that moment...or just randomly for funsies.  Unfortunately, her current diet consists mostly of ground pellet-critical care-baby food pudding-goo, so let me paint you a picture...

She ended up looking like the Swamp Thing before I cleaned her up.  Pudding-goo everywhere:  tips of her ears, chin, throat, front paws, cheeks, even her sides because you know, 'bunny cleaning'!  I ended up with almost as much soapy water on me as she got on her.  At least she would chin the kitten brush between angry meeps, so that helped remove some of it from her jaw.  I managed to get the last little bit off of her by pretending to give her whole head noogies and picking out the goo while it was still wet.

Fingers crossed she makes the connection between chinning all the things and a sponge bath.

New neighbor!

I don't think Mrs. Bun was impressed by me sticking my head out the door to say 'hi' and post her pic on social media.  I'm pretty sure she's going to warn her bunnies that I'm the stranger danger she's been talking about. πŸ˜…

Found him!

Simon did a runner when I was giving him some hay.  He knows he isn't where he's supposed to be and that he'd better not attempt to claim our bathroom with the same zeal that River attempts to claim his litter box.  Judging by the look on his face, I arrived in the nick of time!

It's that time of year again!

With Easter coming up, I thought I'd share another alternative to giving a bunny as an Easter gift--give bunny sugar cookies instead!
Here's my recipe for soft sugar cookies and stackable sugar cookie icing:

Soft Sugar Cookies

4C (480 g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
2 sticks (8 oz) unsalted butter, softened
1 ½ C (298 g) sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
½ C (120 g) sour cream

Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon.  Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.  Beat in the egg, vanilla and sour cream until well blended.
Gradually stir in the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
Divide the dough in half and wrap tightly with plastic wrap and let chill at least 1 hour.
Pre-heat oven to 350F.
The cookie dough should be the consistency of play-doh before you roll it out onto a lightly floured surface.
Roll the dough out to ~1/8-1/4 inch thickness and cut out the shapes.  Make sure the dough is cool for the best shapes.
Place cookies at least 2 inches apart (figure 6-8 large cookies) on a parchment paper covered baking sheet.  Bake 5-10 minutes (longer for light colored baking sheets) or until the tops of the cookies look dry.  Let cool for a few seconds prior to removing them from the baking sheet.
Let cool completely before decorating.
                                                Yield: ~3 dozen large cookies
Stackable Sugar Cookie Icing

3 C (374 g) confectioners’ sugar, sifted
2 Tbsp milk (add extra by ½ tsp increments to reach desired honey-like consistency)
2 Tbsp light corn syrup (no more or it won’t set up)
1 Tbsp (clear for best color) vanilla extract
paste food coloring
unsweetened cocoa powder for making chocolate icing (add a tsp at a time to the icing portion until desired flavor/consistency is reached)

Combine all of the wet ingredients in a large mixing bowl and gradually whisk in the confectioners’ sugar until smooth and glossy.
Cover any icing you aren’t going to use immediately with plastic wrap or spoon colored icing into Ziploc baggies to use as piping bags for later.  This icing forms a skin easily and will need to be mixed often otherwise.
Allow to dry for at least 2 hours before trying to stack them—drying time depends on the thickness of the icing layer and your humidity that day.

Yield:  Should be enough to cover the 3 dozen cookies in the prior recipe.

**You may want to double the icing amount for very large (~3.5") cookies.

Onward noble steed!

Hmm...you're not onwarding.  Is there a button I need to push somewhere?  How do I make it go?!

Revenge is mine!

Simon was taking his aggression out on the purple towels after he needed a bit of a tookus and vent clean-up.  A little bit of indignity is totally worth being all nice and flowery down there again! 🌼🌻🌺

It's time for bed.

This is River 'hiding' from me so that playtime can be extended indefinitely.

That face!

River:  Did I leave the oven on?
