Apollo let the intrusive thoughts win and completely emptied her hay bag onto the ground...then peed on the alfalfa hay carnage.
Litter box training is hard.
She would also like some more leafy alfalfa hay and for me to put together a search party for her food dish.
Update: Search and rescue operations were called off this morning when Apollo's food dish was discovered in a pool of baby bunny pee in a shallow grave of alfalfa hay. The poor pellets inside the food dish never had a chance!

Oh my, that's... A lot of pee. Apollo girlie, why? I can see her already becoming an agent of chaos? Were the other bunnies difficult to litter train?
ReplyDeleteHi Mónica!
DeleteI was beside myself at how much pee a baby bunny could produce overnight. I asked her the same question and she just gave me a nose-bonk and begged for pellets. Her motivation is unclear, but chaos is a pretty good bet.
Honestly, I think they were about the same level of difficulty, just in slightly different ways. River may have been the most stubborn about picking where her litter box went, but at that time we didn't know she was deaf, so she couldn't hear us begging her not to pee there. Thankfully, Apollo has only done this once and she seemed to learn pretty quickly that peeing on her hay and pellets makes it yucky so she's been good about peeing in her litter box ever since...poops, not so much. She gets all kinds of offended when I get the litter scoop and put them in her litter box while saying, "Poopies go in the toilet!" XD
Amazing how a little bunny can make such a big mess! She must have thrown that litter everywhere for her food dish to be swallowed by the alfalfa avalanche! Good thing the bowl was found in the rubble but it’s too bad about those pellets!
ReplyDeleteHi Tarosagi!
DeleteShe really went above and beyond with this! Like, Amos would've been proud because he never quite managed to accomplish this particular shenanigan (mostly because he'd get distracted by eating the hay).
Yeah, the pellet dish was a gruesome discovery and I kinda wanted to boil my hands after that. [shudders]
Some bunnies learn from other bunnies, some bunnies have to piss on the electric fence. Or in this case, the food box. Paraphrasing something my husband said about our kid. I hope Apollo has learned how not to ruin her breakfast.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna!
DeleteLol--so true! Thankfully, she hasn't peed in her food dish for about a week, so, yay progress! Today when I was cleaning her litter box, she also managed to get all of the pee into it and not over the side into the wood chips underneath it. She's learning! :D
