Finding our new normal.

Mr. Giraffe has been by Naomi's side ever since we lost Amos. She is so gentle with him and gives him all of the snuggles while we help him give her all the kisses back.

We set Amos' cage mat next to hers and she sleeps on it next to Mr. Giraffe, who has become her security blanket. She'll dig at and move her own mat, but Amos' mat is special and gets kisses too.

We've learned that we can't remove Amos' cage from the living room because Naomi will get so upset that she'll loudly meep, act completely spooked, and will not stop thumping no matter how much we try to console or distract her (and this was after almost a week as we didn't want to try to change her environment too quickly once we got home).

We're looking into finding Naomi a friend because she seems like she'd do better with one than being a lone bun. Not sure of the logistics of doing that just yet as we've decided to buy my parents' house from the estate (our first home!) and it's going to be a process going back and forth between states for a while trying to get everything settled.

Thank you all so much for your kind words, love, and support--it really means a lot to us.

The sweetness, the kindness, the love...the adorableness of the buns, the compassion of the people, this has been a special place I've loved to visit for so many years. It'll be interesting seeing a new background with a new home, congrats on a house!
It's so heartbreaking losing Amos, but I'm glad you're looking for a friend for Naomi. Mr Giraffe has become the most loving assistant, too.
Thank you so much for still having such a cute blog, through the ups and downs. I may not be the best at words, but I will always cheer you on. Take care!

I've been reading your blog since Simon and River and now with Naomi and Amos. Thank you for keeping us updated on how Naomi is doing. I look forward to Naomi's next buddy. Good luck with your new bunny kingdom - with the house maybe you can expand!

Poor sweet Naomi, she must be so scared, so confused... The poor girl was there when it all happened and I think she is still shaken by it. I'm glad she is finding comfort in Mr Giraffe, and Amos' old stuff. Hopefully you will find her the perfect partner that can help her recover.
Good luck with the move! I'm so happy for you!

Naomi is such a sweetheart and Mr. Giraffe has really stepped up, and I'm super proud of him and big human and little human for all the help you've been giving Naomi through this grieving process.

I'm very happy for you all that you'll be moving into your first home! It's both super exciting and super stressful but I know you can do it. I'm looking forward to all the adventures Naomi will have in the new home and maybe even with a new bunny companion!

Hi Anon!
Aww, thank you so much for sharing this whole journey with us and for being in our corner! There has been a lot of change and loss this year, but hopefully we can find Naomi a friend to make things easier for her and we can share our love and home with.

Hi Anna!
Thank you for being with us through the years. Oh, you're very welcome. We're in the process of finding Naomi a friend, so I will keep you all updated on that as well.
Aww, thanks! We did get the little munchkins a pair of bunny McMansions for the Ohio house and Amos had so much fun in his because they have a platform that he could hang out on and see everything going on around him. I wish I had taken a pic of him in it! Naomi and her eventual new friend will be living large once we fully move in there.

Hi Mónica!
It was rough for a bit, but she's starting to do a lot better but you can tell that the grief hits her in waves just like it does with people. She's finally eating more like normal, which is a huge relief--now I just have to keep brushing her like crazy since she's going through a heavy shed right now and we don't need any tummy troubles on top of what we've all just gone through.

I will definitely let you guys know when we find her a friend, though we'll definitely be taking the bonding super slowly because that's a lot for Naomi to deal with as well as the new bun leaving all that they know and coming into a home that already has a bun there.

Aww, thank you so much! I think Mom and Dad would be happy knowing that the house will be staying in the family. It will definitely be interesting moving back into my childhood home!

Hi Tarosagi!
Aww, thank you and she really is! She has definitely become a lot closer to us since Amos passed--she even started circling around me just like Amos used to when I was getting their breakfast/dinner pellets ready and has hopped into my lap and given me a nose-bonk. Naturally, I gave her loads of noogies and a few treats after all that! ;)

Aww, thanks--it's definitely going to be a process to go through all that's there and then get our own stuff moved over and will more than likely take around a year, but we have time with how our lease agreement was timed. Naomi already has a bunny McMansion with a platform and a ramp at the Ohio house that she absolutely adores the cave under the platform. This thing actually makes her look tiny! Her new friend will inherit Amos' McMansion that he loved so much (he was king of the library/living room from his platform throne). I'm sure many a shenanigan and Bunny-500 race will happen there!
