Happy girl!

Seeing Naomi do a huge binky yesterday had me grinning like an idiot.  It warms my heart to see her happy!

In other good news, we managed to find a little boy bunny who is in need of a good home.  Big human, Naomi, and I are going to pick the little one up on Sunday.  Naomi will be in her own carrier and we'll bring a separate one for the baby bun, so they can each see and smell one another on the ride home.  We're going to take it slow and see how she reacts and the personality of the baby bun and work to make sure everybun feels safe and loved because this will be a huge life change for everyone.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay safe out there and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

Having a sad.

Naomi was looking in Amos' empty cage (we haven't removed it because she'll get even more upset if it's gone) and then did this. I helped Mr. Giraffe give her lots of kisses and snuggles along with some noogies of my own. Thankfully her bouts of grief are becoming fewer and farther between. It's just going to take time.

My giraffe!

Naomi is letting everyone know that Mr. Giraffe is HER best friend and not ours.

Tuesday, June 9, 2026

She's channeling Amos.

Found the pellets! Also, my lawyer, Mr. Giraffe, Esq. says that I can't get in trouble right now because I'm grieving.

Honestly, I'm just thrilled that Naomi decided to pull off a shenanigan! She's also started to eat more normally again, which is a huge relief.

Finding our new normal.

Mr. Giraffe has been by Naomi's side ever since we lost Amos. She is so gentle with him and gives him all of the snuggles while we help him give her all the kisses back.

We set Amos' cage mat next to hers and she sleeps on it next to Mr. Giraffe, who has become her security blanket. She'll dig at and move her own mat, but Amos' mat is special and gets kisses too.

We've learned that we can't remove Amos' cage from the living room because Naomi will get so upset that she'll loudly meep, act completely spooked, and will not stop thumping no matter how much we try to console or distract her (and this was after almost a week as we didn't want to try to change her environment too quickly once we got home).

We're looking into finding Naomi a friend because she seems like she'd do better with one than being a lone bun. Not sure of the logistics of doing that just yet as we've decided to buy my parents' house from the estate (our first home!) and it's going to be a process going back and forth between states for a while trying to get everything settled.

Thank you all so much for your kind words, love, and support--it really means a lot to us.

He was loved.

While we were visiting family in Ohio and dealing with my parents' estate stuff, Amos started to show signs of having GI stasis and I treated him with the usual critical care force-feedings, keeping him warm with a hot water bottle, and baby gas drops (simethicone) all of Thursday.

By early Friday morning he was just nibbling at random hay and pellets, was lethargic, felt cool to the touch, and acting confused (signs of dehydration) but was able to poop and pee a little bit from all of the feedings.  We called around to multiple exotics vets in the area and were turned away due to schedules being fully booked, no exotic vet on staff that day, and refusal to see a rabbit as an emergency case that hadn't been treated at that facility before until we finally spoke with Barberton Veterinary Clinic, who took care of him as soon as we could drive there (about 35 minutes away).

After giving him pain meds, fluids, blood tests and x-rays they discovered that Amos had a liver lobe torsion (one of the five lobes of his liver had twisted on itself and cut off the blood supply to the twisted lobe) which had caused internal bleeding into his abdomen, kidney damage, and changes to his GI tract that required emergency surgery.  We got to see him and tell him how brave he was, how he was being such a good boy, and that we loved him before they whisked him away (along with Mr. Giraffe) to give him the best care they could.

Amos made it through the surgery where they removed the right medial lobe of his liver.  As he was recovering from anesthesia while still intubated, he threw a blood clot that caused him to lose his basic reflexes.  Our sweet boy never regained consciousness.

We were told that the reason for otherwise healthy rabbits suddenly developing a liver lobe torsion is still unclear, but that Holland lops are one of the more common rabbit breeds seen to have it as well as male rabbits in general.

I just wanted to share Amos' story to help others recognize the symptoms to look out for so that they might have a better outcome for catching it early.  I don't think we could have done anything differently as it was the clot that ultimately took him from us and that's a risk with any surgery.

We brought Amos home so Naomi could understand that he was gone and say her own goodbyes.  She's hanging in there and has been using Mr. Giraffe as a security blanket and will sleep with her ear draped over him in a hug.  We're giving her all of the love, noogies, treats and attention she can stand.

Two years was not enough.

I'll try to post again next Monday.

Drum solo!

Amos would like us all to know that he still wants more pellets by banging his little bear paws on the container lid like a bongo drum.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend!  We'll be visiting with family next week, so we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on June 1st.

Throwback Thursday!

Naomi size comparison on the day we brought the little munchkins home. You can already tell the baby chaos bun is thinking about tipping the can over.

Big human gets me. 💕

He said this is what I get for not putting anything on my wish list for my birthday. He also said he was crying laughing at the howling bunny on the T-shirt and knew he'd found my present.

Have you ever seen anything so majestic?

Also, the saying on the mug is a running joke we have for whenever the bunnies crank the rabbitude up to 11, so two perfect finds for one birthday!

Hare brakes!

Naomi managed to avoid running into the bookshelf at top speed.  Meanwhile, Amos looks like his own life flashed before his eyes from secondhand chaos!

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend!  Stay safe out there and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

Mine!

Naomi is guarding her toy hoard like a fuzzy little dragon.  She did not believe me when I told her she'd get her toys back once I finished cleaning her cage. [sigh]

Wednesday, May 13, 2026

Boop!

Amos was saying goodnight to Spike as I gathered up their little buddies for bedtime.

Tuesday, May 12, 2026

Are you okay?!

Amos and Naomi were very concerned for Mr. Giraffe and Ducky's well-being after discovering them like this and gave them gentle nuzzles until I got them both back on their feet again.  The empathetic little munchkins got some papaya bites after this for being such sweethearts!

Blanket fort!

Amos is doing his best to create a defensive perimeter against Monday morning.  Naomi isn't half as invested in this group project as he is.

Just act casual.

I don't know what they're planning, but I bet it's a shenanigan!

The babiest of baby bun pics!

I was looking through old Amos and Naomi pics and realized that I've never posted the first pics we had of them.  Hard to believe that Amos is two days older than Naomi!

I also noticed that we brought them both home two years ago on May 5th, so I had to share!

Fast food.

Amos the taco bun is making a run for the border!

He made it to the coffee table before he decided to shake the taco off of his back. (For any costume I just lay them over the bunnies like a blanket so they can shake them off whenever they want.)

Little weirdo!

I told Naomi that breaking into Amos' cage and sniffing his litter-box is giving off crazy stalker vibes. She had no idea what any of those words meant.

Oh, bunnies!

Bunny logic.

Naomi still hasn't figured out that just because she's under Amos' hay bag, I can still see her.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend! Stay safe out there and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

Camouflage!

Naomi blends in entirely too well with the hay cube.  She's just biding her time until an unsuspecting big human comes walking by so she can ambush him chaos bun style!

Could you not?

Amos looks like he's hoping that Naomi's curiosity doesn't turn into a shenanigan that he'll be roped into. He doesn't want anything to jeopardize getting treats!

Giraffe kisses!

I caught the little munchkin gently licking Mr. Giraffe's cheek.  She was being so careful to not tip him over!

Overnight bunny shenanigans!

Amos tried to have a midnight snack by pulling the pillow case the treats were on into his cage. Basically, he was trying to knock one of the treat bags over so he could pull it through the bars.

The only thing he regrets is that the banana chip container won't fit between the bars (not for lack of trying).

The little dude is sneaky smart and highly food-motivated!

Little helpers.

They are helping with distracting big human as he fills their hay bags.  Amos was given a long strand of hay so he'd stop begging and Naomi is nudging his hand so he knows that she'd like a piece of hay too!

Never mind that every tent they own is loaded with hay--the stuff straight from the box is the good stuff!

Blast from the past!

I was looking through old pics and came across this one of baby Naomi being a little water-bug.  She was so little when we brought them home!

Snuggle buns!

I love the reciprocal bunny pillow thing going on here.

Pillow envy.

Amos was intrigued by my pillow I was using to prop my broken ankle up.  I may have to bribe him with a pillow of his own if I want to sleep through the night since we're room-mates until I can sleep in a proper bed again.

Snack time!

It looks like Amos and Naomi are having a contest, but I'm not sure if it's an eating one or if they're trying to see who can make the biggest mess with the hay.  Naomi has the biggest mouthful, but Amos has made an impressive scattering of hay!

Tuesday, April 14, 2026

Slip 'n slide!

I don't think Naomi knew that her legs could do a split.  I'm also pretty sure that somewhere out of view, Amos is saying, "And that's why I won't hop onto slippery floors!

Access denied!

We had to get creative to prevent Naomi from pulling the baby gate down on herself.  Big human put a 20 pound dumbbell inside the hamper when she tried to push it out of her way.

Fun fact #1:  Naomi is actually lanky enough that she can put her chin on the rim of the hamper when she's not standing flat-footed.

Fun fact #2:  It has not yet occurred to her to jump over the baby gate.

Mood.

Amos is trying to run away from the presidential stupid that's been cranked up to 11 lately.

Naomi has opted for hiding in her bunny bunker until the stupid passes. Sadly, I think she's in for a bit of a wait.

Tuesday, April 7, 2026

Excuse you!

Amos looks so offended that Naomi pushed past him to get out of the tunnel.  Little dude conveniently forgot that he was the one blocking the tunnel in the first place!

Easter out-takes!

What do you mean these aren't filled with candy?!

Our mighty hunters doing their best.  Now you know why I didn't fill the Easter eggs with candy.  They're having enough of a challenge with the strawberry bits in plain sight! 😅

Sailing into the weekend!

Amos launched himself off of the blue pontoon bed. Even Naomi looks impressed with his hang-time!

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you all have a great weekend! Stay safe out there and we'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday.

Edit:  We'll be back with a special holiday post this Sunday!

Snack time!

I love how Amos is staring at me all defiant-like over the ridiculously huge mouthful of hay he grabbed as if that will suddenly make it a reasonable amount.  Like, little dude, check out the amount Naomi is eating and try again.
