An offer I can't refuse.

It has recently come to my associate's and my attention that you prefer the couch to remain intact and free of any offending substances of a decidedly bodily nature.  We're prepared to offer you protection--insurance, if you will--from just such unfortunate occurrences.  An extra scoop of oats apiece is all we ask for our troubles.
In retrospect, it was a mistake to have a Godfather movie marathon in full view of Simon and River.
If my husband and I don't end up sleeping with the fishes, we'll be back on Monday.  Have a great weekend!

Simon does his dance of joy!

Simon has reached happiness overload with this binky and head-shake combo.  I'm guessing that it's because he has the couch all to himself.

Deep thoughts.

Simon:  Gee, River, whatcha thinkin'?
River:  The same thing that I do every night, Simon--how to take over the world!

Guard bunny.

Simon takes his role of guard bunny/doorstop very seriously.  Constant vigilance...well, at least when he isn't napping.

Let me help you with that...

This is Simon's version of helping me clean his litter box.  I never knew the trash bag would make such a comfy pillow for him.  Well, it has been a long week so I'm sure he's tired.
On that note, we hope you have a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday!

These are not the bunnies you're looking for.

River:  Uh, everything's under control.  Situation normal.
Me:  What happened?
Simon:  Uh, we had a slight carpet malfunction, but uh...everything's perfectly all right now.  We're fine.  We're all fine here now, thank you.  How are you?
Me:  I'm coming over to investigate.
Simon:  Uh, uh...negative, negative.  Isn't that someone knocking at the door?
River:  Yeah!  You better go answer it...might be a package you need to sign for or something!

To each their own.

Two very different styles of dealing with a new box in the living room.  River just hopped right on over and started munching on one of the flaps.  Simon is still warily army crawling towards it.  Took the little guy three aborted attempts to make his way over there.  What Simon lacks in daring, he more than makes up for in tenacity.

A private conversation.

I get the feeling that Simon thinks the mirror bunny is the only one who truly understands him sometimes.

Bunnies and Sunshine is one year old!

Simon and River got a bit carried away with celebrating this milestone.
Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed our blog enough to keep visiting!  Our birthday wish is to make this year even better than the last.  Given the number of candles that were just sacrificed, I think we'll be off to a good start!

Just stop now before you hurt yourselves.

Simon and River are determined to get behind the box blockade I created.  Simon made an ill-fated attempt at climbing onto the box and summarily fell off the side of it after only managing to pull half of himself up.  Here he is on his tippy-tippy toes like a bunny version of a ballerina.
River managed to get herself stuck in the oat container (well, more like she couldn't move forward due to the kleenex box blocking her path and couldn't move backward due to another big box).  I have no idea how she thought this would allow her access behind the boxes or how she managed to wedge herself into that position in the first place.
This also spawned a nightmare with thumping at 2, 3, and 4am.  She has quite an active imagination because she's honestly the first rabbit we've ever had that has gotten nightmares.
Not to be deterred, River is furiously pondering the box blockade dilemma.  I ended up herding her away to go play with something else before she got into more trouble.
On the note of following your dreams, we hope you have a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday!

Follow the leader!

It's times like this that I feel like just another piece of playground equipment (in this case, a really awesome tunnel).
Hello!
And Simon is the caboose...at least until River circles back around for another pass.

Ooof!

River binkied just a bit too hard and almost knocked the wind out of herself when she landed.  She didn't let her rough landing dim her enthusiasm for playtime, though.

Stay!

Simon has figured out the only sure-fire way to prevent River from getting into trouble.  I call it "bunny sitting" and he does it really well.  Simon has this "not on my watch" look about him.  River looks unamused at this turn of events and is probably plotting her escape and eventual hostile takeover of the living room.

Bun shui.

The tasty bunny version of feng shui.
What you see here is my answer to bunny hay wasting and OCD-style digging in the hay that they decide is now only suitable for bedding.
I've been doing this for a few weeks now and I have to say that both Simon and River are eating more hay, their cages are cleaner, and River doesn't get into a crazed digging frenzy that tosses hay chaff everywhere.  The trick is to get a very large handful of hay and fold it in half prior to placing it half-way into the butter box--I usually will do this to both ends of the box and refill as needed.

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you have a great weekend!  We'll be back on Sunday for a special holiday post.

Always look before you leap.

This is what happens when River jumped into a box without checking to see if the top was stable.  To our credit, we didn't intentionally set out to make a rather effective bunny trap...this was just a box we were going to put in the recycle bin when the bunnies were back in their cages for the evening.  Clearly, River had other plans.
A little help here, human?  It turns out that the box was just slippery and high-sided enough for her to not easily climb back out.  Don't worry, my husband "rescued" her once the photo-op was done.  She wasn't too bothered by her momentary captivity and binkied down our hallway afterward as if nothing had happened.

Pinocchio bun.

River was the one who ate your shoelaces!

The autobun.

Apparently, there is no speed limit on the couch.
Simon has unwittingly volunteered for the role of River's catcher and hugger.  I think this is the moment when River realized that she wasn't going to be able to stop in time.  Bunnies may be able to turn on a dime, but they certainly can't stop on one!
River has found a safer vantage point to watch Simon approach mach1.
It looks like Simon is warping space-time as he reaches maximum velocity (if the weird ripples along his body are anything to go by).  I half expected to see a ring of a sonic boom around his mid-section.
Well, on that note, thanks for visiting and we hope you have a great weekend.  We'll be back on Monday!

Bunny see, bunny do.

It amazes me how often I find Simon and River mirroring one another even in the most mundane of activities.
I also have two bunny tips for anyone interested:
1.  Chamomile tea (diluted half strength for a 4 lb bunny, cooled and unsweetened) can be used to calm down a bunny who is overly nervous.  Every bunny is different, but it may be worth a try especially if you have to travel with your bunny and you know they're stressed by it.
**If they don't seem to care for the taste, you can combine it with some unsweetened and cooled peppermint tea.  You can also use just the peppermint tea to trick a sick bun into drinking water.
MAKE SURE ANY TEA YOU GIVE YOUR BUNNIES IS AN HERBAL TEA THAT IS CAFFEINE FREE
In our case, Simon gets frightened of rain storms that cause howling wind to the point that he'll give himself a minor bout of GI stasis from not eating during the storm.  I put the tea in his water bottle that evening and made sure to give him plenty of hay and a scoop of oats to make him thirsty before the storm hit.  He was fine the next day.  Just don't leave the tea in the water bottle too long--overnight is the longest I'd go and make sure to thoroughly wash it out with soap and water afterwards.
2.  Use safety pins to hold a piece of cloth to the lower bars of the cage if you have a bunny that enjoys digging in their litter box and kicking litter all over your floor.  This saves having to vacuum in front of their cages every few days.
