Simon decided to squish himself into the two inches of space between River and the arm of the couch.

Hey, River--why don't we play somewhere else?
Simon was understandably concerned when River almost fell off the back of the couch while attempting to climb the curtains.
For everyone's peace of mind, River (aka Danger Bun) is now no longer allowed on the back of the couch.

The old switcheroo.

Hey, Simon--you should come up here on the couch!  It's way more fun than being on the floor.
3 seconds later:
Simon hops up onto the couch while River runs over to the loveseat and hops down to the floor.

[sigh] Why do I always fall for that?!

Everybun on the couch!

After seeing enough current events on the news for one day, Simon is using his sad bunny face to try and get me to change the channel.  Meanwhile, River is finding the back of the couch more entertaining than the TV.

If you're not going to change the channel, could you at least get closed-captioning?!  Honestly, the only news story I want to see is the one where the humans proclaim me and Simon rulers of the world and that our tribute of oats is on its way.

Almost paradise.

Where's the remote?!

We've taken to hiding it on the coffee table because if it's left on the couch, the bunnies have an amazing knack for changing channels and settings by running over it.

Bad idea Monday.

River's preparing to jump onto the coffee table while Simon looks on with a "I sure wouldn't do that if I were you" look.
The coffee table is a bunny-free zone so jumping onto it would be the Queen Mother of all bad ideas and would result in having couch privileges permanently revoked.
In the end, she thought better of it and preserved couch time for herself.  Crisis averted!

Do I want to know?

I turn my back on them for five minutes and this is the sight that greeted me.  I have no idea what seems to have gotten River's knickers in a twist, but it's clear that Simon isn't allowed onto her side of the couch until he apologizes for something.

Capture the couch!

River:  The couch is mine, Simon.  Give up now, or I'll take it by force!

Simon:  Oh yeah?  You and what army?

River:  I'd like to direct your attention to my two associates up on the ridge.

Simon:  Aww, no fair!  We didn't agree that we could have allies! [sigh] I'd like to open up diplomatic relations with the bunnies of the loveseat to discuss a truce.

Bunny war games are pretty much over with before they even start.

Appropriation consternation.

The buns' inability to pass an appropriations bill resulted in a partial household shutdown (i.e. no electricity).  They were, however, able to pass legislation doubling their daily oat ration.  So, at least they were able to pass something.
P.S.  Simon would like me to inform you that the budget impasse is entirely River's fault.

The bunnies are no longer allowed to watch C-SPAN.

Look before you leap.

Poor little River looks as though her short life just flashed before her eyes in the moments before Simon plowed right into her while leaping from the loveseat to the couch.

River:  I can't believe you ran into me!  Do you know how scary that was?!
Simon:  I said I was sorry.  I didn't mean to run you over like that.

Success!  And a lesson learned.

Simon really did get on River's bad side for running into her--the "I'm sorry" look he gave her apparently wasn't enough, so she gave him the "bunny butt" and quickly hopped off of the couch to go into the kitchen (where she knew he couldn't follow).
Oh, bunny drama!

No good can come of this...

Simon seems to be thinking, "I don't know what she's up to either."
Sometimes I think River uses Simon as a lookout when she gets an idea for a grand adventure.  I don't think she fills Simon in on whatever it is to keep up the air of plausible deniability.
I generally step in at this point before events unfold that would more than likely end with her being stuck behind the couch or something breakable being knocked over.

An offer I can't refuse.

It has recently come to my associate's and my attention that you prefer the couch to remain intact and free of any offending substances of a decidedly bodily nature.  We're prepared to offer you protection--insurance, if you will--from just such unfortunate occurrences.  An extra scoop of oats apiece is all we ask for our troubles.
In retrospect, it was a mistake to have a Godfather movie marathon in full view of Simon and River.
If my husband and I don't end up sleeping with the fishes, we'll be back on Monday.  Have a great weekend!
