Bunny love.

I think this is one of my favorite pics of these two.  When I saw them like this, I went into bunny cuteness overload and made a sound that should only come from a tween girl at a boy band concert.  Not one of my proudest moments.  I still got the pic, though!

With pictures like this I often wonder if Bun needs a mate and feel guilty because I can't handle 2 bunnies right now.

Well, I'd definitely hold off until you're sure you can cover the extra expense (food, second cage, vet bills). Everyone likes to say having two bunnies isn't much different than having one, but we've found that to not be so.

Not to discourage you, but bonding is truly a case-by-case thing. Simon and River are fine so long as they're supervised, but we'd never trust them alone together. They both want to be alpha bun and simply won't back down if they decide to argue about something. We went into this getting littermates of opposite sex that have never been out of one anothers sight (the best possible hope for a successful bonding) and they'll still fight occasionally. Perhaps with River being deaf, we already had the deck stacked against us for bonding her (she may be missing vocal cues that a hearing bunny wouldn't miss) and her personality (and Simon's) dealt the final blow.

If you do decide somewhere down the road that you'd like a second bunny, definitely go to a local shelter and see if you can bring Bun in to do a bunny version of speed-dating. I'm assuming that Bun has been de-sexed, otherwise I don't know if they'd allow it. It's best that you adopt the bunny that yours gets along with because, like people, some just don't get along no matter how much time you give them if you were to pick a companion for them. Hope this helps some! :)
