Okay, here's the deal--Bunnies and Sunshine is located in an area about to be hit by a hurricane and the helpful folks at our local power company have decided that their disaster plan will start and end with telling us that we'll be without power for an extended period of time. That's comforting. So, in order to keep you supplied with bunny cuteness, I've decided to hurry up and create all of my posts for this week and get them to you before we lose power. So, enjoy and I'll try to reply to any comments just as soon as I'm able. There are 5 posts after this one, for those who are counting.
Here's hoping it'll only be out for a week! If it's more than that [cringe], I'll be back just as soon as I can upload photos again. Please just keep checking back. Take care and have a great week and we'll be back when we can!

The bunnies discover a pumpkin!
Simon seems to like his first pumpkin! He looks like he's wondering what the green part on top is for.
River is pretty happy with discovering that the pumpkin is edible. Check out my next post to see what I did with the pumpkin!

Happy Halloween!
Ha! Give you treats?! Nice trick. Now, the way this works is that you give us treats.
I was all sorts of proud that this turned out after eight and a half hours of carving. I haven't carved a pumpkin since I was 9 years old (pretty sure I got it all out of my system here). I didn't have any proper carving tools, so I made do with an exacto-knife, a paring knife, a calligraphy nib, a spoon and some tips you use to pipe icing with (because they were sharp and metal). I also found out the hard way that candles don't really work to light up a pumpkin if you don't do a cut-through. Ben was kind enough to suggest using a light bulb from a table lamp, which is what you see sticking out of the pumpkin here (he was holding it in place so I could snap a pic of it).
I just had to do the side by side. Hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween!

I'm fine.
No, Simon don't move on my account! I'm perfectly comfortable laying like this. Um, do you know where my legs are?
Would you please move?!
All Simon wanted was to hop over to the loveseat. Sadly, the way was shut and he could not pass. River's curiosity is a powerful thing.

Is it lucky?
Apparently, they both find Simon's foot fascinating. Perhaps they're trying to figure out why we humans consider them lucky. With these two great minds on the case, we'll have an answer in no time!
Have a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday!

Nope, nothing to see here...
Keep on moving you lookiloo! We were most definitely not trying to get past the baby gate and get ourselves into trouble. Definitely not...no siree.

River's power trip.
River has figured out that electricity is vital to the human's computer. I imagine her plot to use this newly acquired info goes something like this:
Step 1-Seize control of the electricity.
Step 2-...
Step 3-OATS.
Sorry about the late post, I had some technical difficulties (and now, slight formatting issues). For some reason, Google blogger keeps giving me fits with uploading pictures as of late. If you check the blog and a post is late, just check back a bit later because that means I'm having my typical luck with things mechanical. I swear I'm an analog girl in a digital world.

Simon keeps on truckin'.
I caught Simon pushing the toy dump truck across the living room. Then he crashed it into the coffee table, where he decided that the cargo was more valuable and "stole" it.
Actually, this is the first time I've seen him make the truck go forward (usually he's either biting at the front end while chasing it or swatting it with his front paws to make it move). Our little guy is learning!

Simon kisses himself.
It is an unwritten rule that whenever I just finish cleaning a
reflective surface, at least one bunny will immediately go over and get
bunny hork all over it. River kind of looks annoyed that she didn't
think to do it first.
I just wanted to thank you so much for stopping by this blog--we hit over 30,300 all time page views this week! I hope you all have a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday!

Simon has River's back.
Simon washes River's back, River washes her foot...yep, that sounds about right for this particular alpha bun-beta bun relationship.

Couches are awesome!
River is being a daredevil again by running from the couch to the loveseat while vaulting over the remote.
She sticks the landing! Now all she has to do is stop before she falls off the end of the loveseat.
Setting up for another pass...practice makes perfect.
And crashes into Simon, not realizing he decided to jump up onto the couch too. Poor Simon is stunned because he just hopped up when River crashed into him. Even their ears got tangled up!
I moved the remote because Simon almost fell off of the couch trying to walk over it to safely get to the loveseat (he wasn't about to jump it like River does). Now they're both jumping the remote in relative safety.
River just can't seem to stop running into (or over) Simon. He just hunkers down and waits for the natural disaster that is River to pass. Alpha bun does what alpha bun wants to do...in this case, run over beta bun. Poor Simon!
Judging from the looks I'm getting here, I'd say that the humans have been evicted from the couch.
I hope you all have a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday!

River is on top of the world...
Or at least the box she was hiding under on Saturday. I'm glad to say that she's feeling much better now!

River's tummy troubles.
We woke up Saturday morning to find River not feeling well. She just did a dramatic bunny flop when I placed her breakfast in front of her--not a good sign.
I tried to tempt her with oats and managed to get her to nibble at it a bit, but she kept trying to press her belly into the floor or would sit hunched over in her litter box (both signs of belly pain). This had all of the hallmarks of colic and GI stasis, which is life-threatening within 12 hours if the bunny doesn't eat (not knowing when she last ate, I was getting desperate).
I decided to let them both out of their cages to see if getting River to move around would help stimulate her appetite and get her gut active again. Here, we find them both hanging out in the big cage with Simon trying to comfort River...the box is a bit small for two buns to fit, but he made do.
Simon would hop around the apartment and explore for a bit while I would give River tummy rubs trying to help her colic dissipate. He'd keep coming back to lick River's face and snuggle.
Simon kept trying to eat River's breakfast...caught him red-pawed. I closed her cage after his first attempt at a second breakfast. Apparently, Simon operates by the principle of waste not, want not.
By this point, I was trying to think of any way to get liquids into River so she wouldn't dehydrate and came up with the idea of making some peppermint tea and diluting it with cold water. Her favorite herb is mint, so this was my sneaky way of getting her to drink.
This was when we discovered that River uses Simon as a taste-tester. We also found out that Simon really, really, really likes mint tea. Here he is in the process of licking his lips. He became a little mint tea piggy and kept nudging River's head out of the way when she went to get some too. I had to relocate the bowl and scoot him away so she could drink. Simon just kept coming back like a little furry boomerang. We were thrilled that River was drinking again!
River likes mint tea so much that she didn't even care that her ear was in it. After her drink, I think the mint helped to stimulate her appetite and she started to nibble on some hay. Yay, progress!
It took us about 4 hours, but River finally started eating again and going to the litter box. I don't think there have been two people so happy that their bunny was eating and pooping again. Hooray for no emergency vet visit!
Now that we know that River is somehow more susceptible to GI stasis and colic, we're going to be watching her like a hawk from now on since we still don't know what precipitated this. I'm happy to report that she's doing much better now and seems to be back to her old self! We've been giving her lots of fresh mint and greens with her hay to help prevent a relapse.

Happy Columbus Day?
This is how I imagine things would have happened in 1492 if Simon and River were present. The bunnies were a bit confused as to how a place can be "discovered" if it already has people on it. The only response I could give was that they did it through the creative use of flags due to the "No flag, no country" hypothesis.
We'd also like to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian viewers!

Accountabilibunny.
Simon looks like he's saying, "Don't jump up onto the back of the couch...you'll just get in trouble again."
On that note, I hope you all have a great weekend and just remember to not do anything Simon wouldn't do. If you want to live dangerously, do what you think River would do. We'll be back with more bunny cuteness on Monday!

What?
I don't...quite know what I'm looking at. They're obviously tired, but I don't know how they managed to get into that position.

The amazing box turtle bunny!
I think we're going to need a bigger box. Poor Simon looks like he's thinking, "I can totally fit in here!"

Caught the bunnies stealing oats.
Due to that little escapade, we thought it would be a good idea for the little ones to learn about ethics. After seeing their reading choices, Simon seems to be on the right track and now understands that stealing is wrong, but we're a bit concerned about River. She doesn't seem to think she did anything wrong and is very much in favor of the ends (a belly full of oats) justify the means (stealing said oats) approach, primarily because it's more expedient than waiting for me to serve the oats after she does something "good" (whatever that's supposed to mean).
Time to clean!
Why do they make backs so hard to reach?!
Shoulders don't look much easier. It is funny how when one of them starts cleaning, the other immediately starts too. We think they're either on a very rigid cleaning schedule or one bunny thinks the other is smelly-gross and is trying to set an example.
