Bunnies looking regal.

Simon is king of all he surveys...well, everything to the stair landing at least.
I half expect to hear music from The Lion King to start playing.
River wanted to make sure that I captured her brilliant mind, but thought that a light bulb over her head was too gauche, so this is the best I could do.

Bunny standoff.

River has the power to knock the baby gate over with a single nose-bonk.
I have the power to scoop her up and place her back in her cage.
After a few tense moments, she decided that play time was worth more to her than instant gratification.

Bunny snuggle close-up.

Simon's paw makes a good pillow and apparently, so does River's head.
On that relaxing note, thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you have a great weekend!  We'll be back on Monday.

Appropriation consternation.

The buns' inability to pass an appropriations bill resulted in a partial household shutdown (i.e. no electricity).  They were, however, able to pass legislation doubling their daily oat ration.  So, at least they were able to pass something.
P.S.  Simon would like me to inform you that the budget impasse is entirely River's fault.
P.P.S.  River would like me to inform you that the budget impasse is entirely Simon's fault.
The bunnies are no longer allowed to watch C-SPAN.

Bunny gridlock.

Simon:  Move.  You're in my way.
River:  No, you move.  You're in my way.
They stayed in that position for the next 4 hours because they were unwilling to reach a compromise (despite plenty of room for both of them to maneuver), much like our Congress.**

**I'd appreciate if you didn't mention to Simon and River that I compared them to Congress--I don't want to get nipped the next time I feed them.

A special thanks to my husband for altering some of the wording to make this post even better.

Busted!

Simon knows he's in trouble for trying to knock the baby gate down.  Meanwhile, River is trying to act casual and I imagine her whistling innocently as if she wasn't the one who put him up to it in the first place.

Why isn't this working?

Well, I don't know...push harder!
The bunnies were inspired by pushing around their toy dump truck.  Sadly, the lacking wheels make this a poor boxcar.  I'm still not sure how River ended up being the one pushing it.

They're trying to tell me something.

We really can't make this any clearer, human.  We want oats now.

Simon is the one who knocked the oat container over while River took it upon herself to repeatedly jump back and forth over it like some bizarre bunny semaphore.
Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you have a great weekend!  We'll be back on Monday.

It's too hot!

I think in our last heat wave, Simon melted in the box.
Yep.  Bunny melt confirmed.

The tag-teaming continues...

Okay, so we're agreed--you distract the little human while I get behind the entertainment center.  Divide and conquer.  On three, break left and go do something cute or dangerous.  I don't care which, just buy me some time to get behind the baby gate!  1...2...3!
I'll binky down the stairs, which is both cute AND dangerous!
When I took this pic, I just thought he was going down the stairs like normal until the last second when he launched himself up and out instead of down--he scared the heck outta me!
He ended up sliding sideways down one step before I caught him...just in time to hear the sound of the baby gate crashing to the ground downstairs...
This is the sight that greeted me when I got downstairs.  I think she's shocked that there's an alcove behind there and it's loaded with bunny stuff.
And lots and lots of wires...expensive wires.
I finally managed to extricate her from there and she proceeded to go to the baby gate and try to nose-bonk it over.  I'm not quite sure what she was trying to accomplish with that move.
Oh yeah, like I'm just going to let you go back there again.
Access denied, little one.
Meanwhile...someone is feeling under-appreciated for their contribution of a near-death experience.
I found Simon sulking and giving us both "bunny butt" after dealing with River.
Poor little guy embarrassed himself on the stairs, received absolutely no credit for his diversionary tactics, and didn't even get to see what was behind the entertainment center.
River was left without back-up for rest of the evening.
Within 5 minutes, I caught River trying to thwart the baby gate again.  That is a guilty face (or she's just now realizing the importance of having a loyal sidekick).  This also proves that scolding a deaf bunny is a lesson in futility.

Follow your dreams!

One day this will all be mine!
Oh, yes.  It will be mine...
Come along, Simon.  We have work to do!
Poor Simon looks like he's thinking, "Well, at least one of us knows what we're doing."

Bunny condolences.

We just wanted to offer our sincerest condolences for those who lost a loved one at the Navy Yard today.  We hope that those injured make a full and quick recovery.  This hit a bit close to home and we had a worried wait until we got word that they were okay.  We were lucky.

Bunny imagination.

River the Stairmaster:  Stop.  Who would cross the Stairs of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the upstairs he see.
Sir Simon:  Ask me the questions, stairmaster.  I am not afraid.
River the Stairmaster:  What...is your name?
Sir Simon:  My name is Sir Simon of the Livingroom.
River the Stairmaster:  What...is your quest?
Sir Simon:  To seek the hidden cable cord on the second floor and chew it in half.
River the Stairmaster:  What...is your favorite color?
Sir Simon:  Blue.
River the Stairmaster:  Go on.  Off you go.
Sir Simon:  Oh, thank you.  Thank you very much.
This is what happens when you let bunnies watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  I suppose I should be glad that they chose this scene to reenact instead of the one with the actual bunny in it.

You missed a spot.

[sigh] What do I pay you for?  Good help is so hard to find these days.
River was a bit disapproving of my nightly cage cleaning effort.  In my defense, she decided to inspect my work (and find it wanting) before I was actually done with it.
Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you have a great weekend!  We'll be back on Monday.

And what do we say...?

This is Simon seconds before he thought it would be a good idea to throw the toy dump truck at River.
After getting scolded for that, Simon decided to go sulk in the Coke box.  My husband, finding Simon's antics amusing, decided to go have a chat with him about why we don't throw our toys.
Simon admits that he wouldn't find it very nice if River threw something at him, so perhaps he was in the wrong by doing that to her.
Simon realizes that he's going to have to "bunny up" and apologize to his sister.  My husband gave him a noogie of encouragement.
Apology offered and accepted!

Simon's gonna need a bigger box.

Simon is pretending he's in a boat while River keeps circling him with one ear up pretending to be a shark.  I knew I shouldn't have let them watch Jaws.

Bunny negotiation.

River, I know you were here first, but I don't suppose I could convince you to scootch over just a tiny bit, could I?

Mondays are hard.

Hey, River...
You don't care if I lie like this, do you?

Because I'm too tired to move.

Breaking Bun.

As I promised yesterday, I present to you:  Simon playing the role of Heisenbun!  I told you bunnies were impressionable.  We're a bit concerned at his choice of role model--if anything, we were expecting this from River.
Simon and River were quite taken (as were we) by the show Breaking Bad because of the awesome writing and cast performances.  Definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it yet!

Thanks for visiting the blog and we hope you have a great weekend!  We'll be back on Monday.

Look before you leap.

Poor little River looks as though her short life just flashed before her eyes in the moments before Simon plowed right into her while leaping from the loveseat to the couch.
River:  I can't believe you ran into me!  Do you know how scary that was?!
Simon:  I said I was sorry.  I didn't mean to run you over like that.
Success!  And a lesson learned.
These pics were actually taken one right after the other.
Simon really did get on River's bad side for running into her--the "I'm sorry" look he gave her apparently wasn't enough, so she gave him the "bunny butt" and quickly hopped off of the couch to go into the kitchen (where she knew he couldn't follow).
Oh, bunny drama!

The bane of Simon's existence...

Slippery floors.
You know that he wants to walk on them so badly, but he just can't do it.  He hits reverse as soon as his front feet start to slide.  I took pity on him and tried to expand his world a bit...
Well, it's a start.

Bunny smile!

Simon looks very pleased with himself for figuring out how to thwart the butter box hay dispenser and redistribute the hay about his cage.  He also gets a pretty sweet pillow out of the deal.

Happy Labor Day!

Simon and River:  We think Labor Day should be postponed until we're both better rested.
Me:  Labor Day is a holiday.
Simon and River:  Oh, good!  For a minute there, we thought we'd have to actually do something.
